I'm a Countrygirl

This week was the first full week of my work with the horses so I´ll try to explain everything a little bit.

We start every morning at 6:30 am with feeding 19 horses in Booloumba Creek.
Brook is our who has 200 horses in total to look after. A few of them belong to someone in Dubai so we just take care of them before they go to Dubai when there 7 years old.

When we catched all the horses to get them their food we start to clean them.
Some of the horses need a wash or medicine as well.
Usually at 8 o´clock Brook calls to tell uswhat the plans are for the day.

Monday and Tuesday we went for a 3 and a half hour ride.
In Booloumba I usually work with Marie a french girl who just arrived last Sunday and Del who is our supervisor.
Lizzy is the only Australian who works with us in Booloumba or on the other property in Gheerulla.
The british girl Amanda is the supervisor in Gherrulla and works usually with Taro and her boyfriend Paul.

Wednesday only Marie and Del went for a ride while I stayed with Brook and the vet. We branded 8 horses who belong to Mohammed Rashid in Dubai and will go there soon. In the afternoon I went to Gherrulla with Brook and helped Amanda to give the horses hay with the quadbike.

Thursday Marie, Del and I went for our morning ride as suddenly Del´s horse Sofia tripped over and felt on her knees. Fortunately Del managed to get her back up so that she didn´t fell of.
Brook came with the float and I accompanied him to Gherrulla to meet the vet Peter again.
Sofia was druged out by the vet and my job was to be the assistance for the vet and sit with my whole weight on Sofia´s neck to hold her down.
After a while she tried to get back up and was stronger than me and I fell on top of her but got up quickly.

There are 8 foals in Gherrulla who got just seperated from their mums and aren´t used to human. So it was my job to just chill with them to make them relaxed with humans.

After work Matt came to visit and we went to the Booloumba Falls which are just 20 Minutes away. It was already dark when we went there but still absolutely beautiful and with the nice sound of the waterfall the stars were very bright.

Friday was a rainy day and we didn´t go for a morning ride. It is a very unlucky week for Del because a horse kicked her in the face while she was cleaning his wounds. After that we slowed the day down and cleaned saddles and the paddock of the two foals from Booloumba.
Del got the afternoon off and Marie and I went to Gherrulla with our hightech old-school Army Truck.
There we helped the girls and I was driving the quad with Lizzy so that one is driving while the other trows bisquits of hay to the horses.
The horse whisperer Steve who breaks all the horses showed us what we should train the foals. It was so much fun to go in the foals paddock and to make sure you have their attention. They have to look at you with both eyes and then you start walking around while they´re following. It was the first time someone worked with the foals so it was amazing to see their progress.

Nathan works just 30 km away so that we went to the pub after work. After the second beer Taro, Paul, Del
 and her boyfriend joined us.

Saturday we all had a very relaxed breakfast and watched a movie. After a crazy cleaning marathon from myself it was time for more relaxing.
After 4 episodes of True Blood we decided to go and ride a cow. You think we have too much time? Right but the cow Lucy was also on the wrong paddock.
After a while of so much laughing We decided to put a halter on the cow and 'break her in'. Lucy is always been a very friendly Cow who really let us ride on her back.

Lucy is sneeking around in the paddock of Ambition and Larry.

While we were on a ride I took this picture of the view.

After a week of work my shoes and Jeans are caked in mud. Yeaah lovin' it!
